Océane Ronal (EHESS, Paris)

I am currently a PhD candidate in sociology, at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), where I work under the supervision of Prof. Eve Chiapello. My research focuses on the emergence of private equity mechanisms in development aid policies. I study how public action implements so called “leveraged” financing instruments, able to catalyse additional private funds from an initial public investment, in support of development assistance. The main aim of my research is therefore to describe and understand, on the one hand, how private equity mechanisms penetrated development aid policies and on the other hand, how development objectives could be promoted by such “financialised” public tools.
